Underground Rock Scenes in Japan
If you really want to look into the rock scenes of Japan, maybe you should start off with where it really begins. As usual, most rock bands begins their career in a live house.
The rocks scenes in the live house are a little different from the music scenes in business (which is rather called by the name "J-POP"). More rock, and varies in sounds.
Actually, you can see much influences of bands like "Number Girl", "Super Car", and "Quruli". The appearence of these bands seem to have really changed the live house rock scene.
In order to access to the scene, walking around live houses in Shimo-kitazawa, Shibuya, and Shinjuku might be a poplar route, but it's pretty difficut to get to meet a band that really knocks you out. There's gonna be an event called "Tokyo-Onkyo" where 11 artists will join, and this might be a chance to see what the scene is really like. Many of the artists joining this event are pretty popular in the live house rock scenes of Tokyo, and I'd say it's worth a try listening to.
